Privacy notice

TherapyOngo (formerly Cloud Therapy NG), 290 Borno Way, Yaba, Lagos, connects people with verified therapists. This notice explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Questions: help@therapyongo.ng.

What we collect

• If you book a session: your name, phone or WhatsApp number, email, session preferences and anything you choose to tell us about what you'd like help with.
• If you chat with Amara: the messages you type during the chat. We don't ask for your name or contact details in the chat.
• If you apply as a therapist: your name, contact details, gender, state, NIN, qualifications, licence details, references, photo, CV, bio and interests.

Why we use it

• To match you with a verified therapist, arrange your session and take payment.
• To verify therapists' identity, qualifications, licence, references and background before they can see clients.
• To keep people safe, including responding when someone may be at risk.
• To meet our legal obligations and improve our service.

We rely on your consent, on the need to arrange the service you asked for, and on our legal obligations. Information about your mental health is sensitive personal data, and we only use it to arrange and provide your care.

Who we share it with

• Your matched therapist: your first name, session details and what you chose to share. Not your phone number or email.
• Service providers acting for us: our payment provider (Paystack), our identity verification provider, our web host, and our AI provider for Amara's replies (Anthropic). They may only use the data to provide their service to us.
• Authorities: only where the law requires it, or where someone's life may be in danger.

We never sell your personal data.

How long we keep it

• Session requests and records: for as long as needed to provide your care and meet legal requirements.
• Amara chats: we do not keep a copy after your chat ends, unless you choose to pass your notes to a therapist.
• Therapist applications that are not approved: deleted within 12 months.
• NIN: used for identity verification and removed from our working records once verification is complete.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, withdraw consent at any time, or object to how we use it. Email help@therapyongo.ng and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Keeping it safe

We use encrypted connections, store submissions outside the public website, and limit access to the people who need it.
